For as long as I can remember, I have been introduced as my dad’s daughter and then later on, once married, as my husband’s wife. Both men are well known in our hometown and in the business world.
I then became a mom and after our older daughter faced a hard health journey, I was known as the mom of a sick child and then when our second daughter arrived, I was known has her mom too.
None of these labels offended me and I never really gave them much thought.
It was only after a weekend away on a wilderness retreat did, I start thinking about who I really am and since then, it’s been a journey of self-discovery, without me being aware of this journey!
Turning 50, earlier this year, has been a very significant age for me. I have been tapped on the shoulder and awakened to my truth and my inner wisdom has been unlocked, as I am currently journeying through a life changing journey of transformation, from deep within myself.
I no longer live my life from a place of my labels. These labels will always be my function however they are no longer my identity.
I so often thought “who am I really?” Each day I go a bit deeper and follow how I am feeling and am guided by what feels good, for me and let go of what doesn’t feel good, for me.
It has been the most beautiful journey of waking up from “being asleep” and I get wider awake each day. I know the journey will never end and there is still so much more to feel and experience.
I am no longer defined by being a daughter, a wife, a mom.
I am now defined by “I AM”.
How freeing and liberating this journey has been and continues to be.
The best is yet to come.
All my love, Shan
